Ken got an email from LATTF organizer Adam. I am reprinting it here without permission, but I think that shouldn't be a problem:
Hello,
It's Adam. If you're receiving this email, it's because you expressed an interest in playing ping pong in LA. I have played the last 2 seasons and can tell you that it is a BLAST and I am excited for season 3. Since this might be new for you, here's some info about how it works:
A team consists of 3-5 players (who are close together in skill level)
Each team will have a team name and matching uniforms/shirts to play in
Each team will be placed in the most appropriate division based on their skill level/average rating so that games are close, exciting and fun for all
Teams must have a home club suitable for competitive matches (we have PLENTY to suggest depending on where you live)
Divisions will be approximately 6 teams, so you will play the other 5 teams in your division twice in a season (once at your home club and once at theirs)
Teams will play about 1 league game per week, avoiding holidays and major tournament dates
Each team will have a team captain who will help coordinate the team and should be the most responsible teammate with best communication.
The season will start in early March and should finish in late June.
The majority of matches will be on weekends to avoid crazy LA traffic
The LATTF is flexible and wants to make sure you have a GREAT time. At the beginning of the season, we will talk to you to find out when your home club is available to schedule team matches and we will also find out if there are any specific times that are inconvenient for your team. Here is a list of clubs that have participated in LATTF in the first 2 seasons:
If you have any questions about where to go, who you should talk to, how something works or have any other concerns, I will be happy to help you. Do not hesitate to ask.
Feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who enjoys ping pong. All levels are welcome. We expect to have company teams, kids teams, senior teams, teams from studios and all sorts of other teams forming. Sign ups will be the whole month of January (deadline is Feb. 1st). We will form divisions and season schedules in February and playing will start in early March.
My coworker pointed me to the awesome wesbite of the French table-tennis league http://www.fftt.tv. Apparently it's free to enter and play in the league and there are multiple levels. The video for the recorded games and the games themselves are really great. Why can't the USATT try to do something similar in the US?
Note: Don't click on the photo, it is a screen capture. Click on http://www.fftt.tv instead. The audio is in French, but the table-tennis is international!
We had a very successful potluck the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Many members brought their families to enjoy the loads of great food that everyone brought. Be sure to check out our photos.
The weekday club hours are changing. We will now be open Monday and Wednesday from 5 - 8:30 pm (formerly Tue and Thu). Saturday will still be 12 - 4 pm. The new hours take effect Monday August 2, so we still have one more Thursday (July 29).
This is a news article in Chinese about a Nigerian player
who remarkably beat most of the Chinese players he
faced in Shenzhen, China. Use Google translate for an
interesting read!
and our West Covina league team continues to win. Last Thursday, the team with Alex, Ken and Willy beat "Beauties and the Beasts" 5-0. The Tuesday before that, the team with Alex, Tim and Ken beat "Westside Hitmen" 3-2. Both these were away matches. The match on Tuesday started at 9:30 pm and ended at 11:30 pm. After the match, the team had to drive home from West LA, arriving home after mid-nite!! What dedication .
